Did you know that

  • 8 million tons of plastic enter the ocean every year?
  • 1.5 million tons out of it are “invisible” (micro plastics)?
  • The average seafood eater ingests 11,000 plastic particles per year?

Especially the “invisible” tons of plastic were motivation pure for our current project about micro plastics. It’s a scary feeling that a perfect world like in the above picture is threatened by an invisible danger. The fact that you don’t see the pollution makes it hard to get the topic on the agenda.

We learned a lot about micro plastics in the course of this project. E. g. that 2/3 of the micro plastics are from the erosion of synthetic textiles and tyres! If you want to find out more we’d like to encourage you the read the new IUCN study “Primary microplastics in the oceans“.
